Projects > Township of King - Recreation Master Plan and Multi-Use Facility Feasibility Study
The Township of King and the Lions clubs of King Township are involved in two inter-related projects to learn about and plan for the culture and recreation needs and priorities of their community. Bourrie & Associates assisted the Lions clubs initiate a feasibility study to research the need and financial feasibility of a multi-use community facility. This work was initiated during the summer of 2002. In late February, 2003, the Township of King decided to embark on a Township-wide plan to direct the future development of parks, public open space, and culture and recreation facilities and programs. Bourrie & Associates partnered with the RETHINK GROUP to complete the Master Plan.
Two community-based consultation events provided invaluable input to the project. In November 2002, ninety-six people, recruited from across the Township, attended a facilitated workshop and provided excellent insight through ten discussion groups. The outcome was a clear understanding of facility needs and community priorities. In May 2003, a second round of consultation provided even more input about needs and issues, especially what may be unique to different parts of the Township. Over 150 people attended five separate community forums. Andrea coordinated logistics for all events and facilitated three of the six sessions.
Bourrie & Associates contributed to preparation of the Master Plan and Feasibility Study documents. Andrea's role included completion of the community profile (population, growth issues, land use patterns, community service inventory) and on-going liaison with community leaders and organizations. Both documents have been approved by the clients.
